Chemical Elements | Part 7 | Lanthanides (rare earth)

Very reactant elements found in the lanthanide series (monazite, xenotime); some are relatively abundant in the Earth’s crust rare earth = elements which do not occur naturally in their pure form, instead, they are part of minerals in the silicate, oxide, carbonate. alloyed = metal mixed flint alloy = misch metal = a synthetic material used in lighters to create sparks semiconductor = a material which has a conductivity between conductors (generally metals) and nonconductors or insulators (such as most ceramics) cracking = the process of breaking down large hydrocarbon molecules into smaller, more useful ones by applying high temperatures and pressure, or using a catalyst hydrogenation = a chemical reaction where molecular hydrogen (H) is added to a compound catalyst = something that makes a chemical reaction happen more quickly See also
