chamfer = a type of cut or edging on a length of material
mill mark = repeating textured ridges, lines, or minor surface depressions left on a board by machine cutting knives
groove = a long, narrow channel or slot cut into a piece of wood running parallel to the grain, used for joining panels, holding drawer bottoms, and interlocking boards
rabbet = a groove cut into the side or end of a wooden plank or panel
tenon = a tongue-like projection cut on the end of a piece of wood that fits tightly into a matching hole called a mortise to lock two boards together
dado = a rectangular slot cut into wood
mitred = cut at a 45-degree angle and joined to make a neat corner
valley = the internal V-shaped angle formed where two sloping surfaces meet
truing = making a piece of wood flat, straight, square, and true to size.
