immobility = the state of not moving abnormal = deviating from what is usual sensation = a physical feeling resulting from contact with the body perception = the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses suffocation = difficulty in breathing overlap = extend over so as to cover partly REM sleep = a kind of sleep that occurs at intervals during the night and is characterized by Rapid Eye Movements, more dreaming and bodily movement, and faster pulse and breathing wakefulness = the state of being not asleep pons = the part of the brainstem that links the medulla oblongata and the thalamus motor neurons = a specialized type of brain cell called neurons located within the spinal cord and the brain spinal cord = the long, cylindrical structure that connects your brain and lower back pervasive = widespread spill over = (of a bad situation or strong emotion) reach a point at which it can no longer be controlled or contained
