stock = a supply or quantity of something accumulated or available for future use utensil = a tool, container, or other article, especially for household use. metric = the metric system (e.g. meters, kilograms) imperial = the imperial system of measurement (e.g. inches, punds) counter = a long flat-topped fitment across which business is conducted in a shop or bank or refreshments are served in a cafeteria versatile = able to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities stir = move a spoon or other implement round in (a liquid or other substance) in order to mix it thoroughly stew = a dish of meat and vegetables cooked slowly in liquid in a closed dish or pa skim = remove (a substance) from the surface of a liquid slotted = having one or more long, narrow apertures or slits for instance = for example zest = the outer coloured part of the peel of citrus fruit, used as flavouring baste = pour fat or juices over (meat) during cooking in order to keep it moist(=wet) egg wash = a mixture of beaten eggs and milk or water brushed over pastry or dough before baking in order to give an attractive colour and shine to the surface See also Cooking Tools
