Network Troubleshooting
CAT-5 cable = Category 5 cable (Cat 5) is a twisted pair cable for computer networks
IP address = a numerical label such as 192.0.2.1 that is connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol(IP) for communication. It serves two main functions: network interface identification and location addressing.
DHCP = Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a client/server protocol that automatically provides an IP host with its IP address and other related configuration information such as the subnet mask and default gateway.
A subnet mask is used to divide an IP address into two parts. One part identifies the host (computer), the other part identifies the network to which it belongs.
A default gateway is the node in a computer network using the IP suite that serves as the forwarding host (router) to other networks when no other route specification matches the destination IP address of a packet.
node = a piece of equipment such as a computer, that is attached to a network
router = a device that sends data to the appropriate parts of a computer network
LAN = a system for communicating by computer within a large building or group of buildings (local area network)
WLAN = wireless LAN
wireless = any system of sending electronic information, such as the internet, phone signals, etc. without using wires for the receiving equipment
cycle the network = to switch it on
