Substances:

copper = Cu 

silica = Si 

iron = Fe 

sulfur = S 

ore = rock from which metal can be obtained

blister copper = partly purified copper with a blistered surface formed during smelting

open-pit mine = ore  is taken directly out of the ground near the surface, without digging tunnels
